Although I've been slacking and haven't made an official announcement. This website has been in the planning stages of an alliance with several other websites. The other sites, http://www.Plotstorming.com and http://www.thecbg.org are starting off a contest that will run through the alliance and involve us all.

So, I urge you all to head on over to those two websites and check out their contests, because when they are done, and their winning entries are done, then the contest will move over here for a mapping competition! Jump on over there and get prepared to map for the win!

Hmph... could someone who is a member at TCBG ask an admin to verify my account? For some reason I didn't get the account verification email.

What a great idea!

Presumably we start with the TCBG Competition (New Frontier) which establishes the setting, then the plotstorming people write a creative piece based in the setting for next month's competition and then we do the maps the month after that? What fun, and a great way to meet people in other communities who do related work. I can see solid relationships building up between Worldbuilders/writers/cartographers who are all working for a common purpose.

Congratulations to whomever came up with the idea.

p.s. Hellhound, I'm still waiting for my account at TCBG to be verified too.

HellHound,
I apologize for the inconvenience. We changed servers recently, and due to a few security issues, email notifications are currently inoperable. However, what that means is, you're already a member of the site, and ready to start posting! I just checked, and your account has full member status.

So what contest are we entering? At CBG is it the august competition, "A new frontier"? or something else.. I didn't see anything referencing the alliance in there, or at the other site for that matter.

I'm putting together my "New Frontier" submission, and should have it done shortly after GenCon.

I think the idea is for each community to play to its strengths, so that CBG do the world building, plotstorming the creative writing and we do the mapping.

But I'm just guessing. It would be nice to have an explanation as to how it's all going to work so that individuals in each community can plan accordingly.

CBG Looks fun, the writing one.. that'll be the tough part. From the post above, I had got the impression it was going to be more than just participating in their monthly contest, though. Can we get any more info Arcana?

Heh...I wonder if the people at CBG are saying to themselves that the mapping will be the tough part!

We're still in the planning stages right now for inter-alliance contests...The plan for now is, their two contests will run individually and when they're done, we'll take over and run a mapping contest (or challenge) specifically aimed at the results of their contests. We're also thinking about basing our existing monthly contests off of each others existing monthly contests to encourage community building.

While it would be great if you submit an entry into their contests, don't feel that you have to enter theirs in order to be able to enter ours. As far as people that are only interested in mapping at the moment, just keep an eye on those two contests because we'll be getting the results over here to map on.

Hey guys,
There will definitely be more to it, we just haven't gotten to that yet. Right now, I think what Arcana was saying is for you guys just to check out the site and the current contest, and see if it's anything interesting to you. But the Alliance-Contest hasn't begun yet, so don't think you're missing something important :)

Also, if you look to the left on the main page, you will see that there is an info bar there with Alliance information, but that's about as far as I've gotten yet. We're still in our baby stages right now, but we have a lot of good ideas in mind.

Cheers!

Voting has begun on the contest at the Campaign Builder's Guide site ( www.thecbg.org ) - there are four entries, and I encourage everyone to go there, read them, and then vote for mine on the front page.

Ahem.

I mean, vote for the one you like best.

Sounds interesting, though the 3 sites are rather different, it will be interesting to see what kind of contests they will come up with to share.
