These pics are from a map I began a few days ago, being created for a rpg convention game in February. As can be seen the map began on graph paper (this was the final sketched version, out of 5 or 6), which was scanned then played with to determine rough districts & streets.

When finished this should be a reasonable representation of a town of around 4,000 with quazi-medieval Austrian architecture.

This is my 1st map after a couple year break from mapping. I Had a detailed campaign world mapped out during college, but my PC after college wouldnt let me use CC-2.

Must. Not. Say. Naughty. Things.

It looks to be progressing nicely.

LOL! I think you had the same immediate reaction to what I had. :)

The layout looks faintly... umm... anatomical?

Looks like giant ovaries...or gonads. We'll just see how it goes.

Phew, I was so relieved to see I wasn't the only one thinking of genitals. Strangely androgynous genitals, but still... Nice map, I guess...?

Seems to be a consensus... similar thing happened on one of my earlier maps :)

When this many people see naughty bits it might be time to change the shape! lol!

I saw an upside-down tulip (and naughty bits).

Must. Not. Say. Naughty. Things.

I'm glad to see i'm not the only one that had that first impression.

So I wonder what other parts of female anatomy would make interesting cities?

Like I said, this was my 5th or 6th version of the island. On previous versions my fiance said the island looked to much like a "Twig & Berries", as it was longer and narrower at that time. After several redraws she said this one didn't have that look, and now I guess it looks like something else. I guess I have a clean mind...lol...I only saw an alien looking face.

i like the idea of the map... but unfortunately i see breasts, ovaries and a ham... i had a "symmetrical phase" long ago so i understand the drive to retain that symmetry.. but try altering that a bit and it might make a huge difference.. or something.. (0:

Goodness I nearly fell out of my chair! I am relieved to know I am not alone hehe. Not to criticize but it does look like genitals.

:), a pretty funny reaction but I had the same impression. Can't put my finger on it but I think it has something to do with this:

I wasn't meaning to mock the map. It is nicely laid out and the parts make sense. However, the colors and smoothness combined with the extreme bilateral symmetry makes the eye want to see things that (perhaps) aren't intended to be there. I would recommend roughing up the edges and giving it a bit of a twist to the right or left if possible. Perhaps going for 3-way radial symmetry or more extreme color variation would reduce the tendency of the eye to grab for broad outlines intead of details.

Just rotating the map left or right 90 degrees might also work.

More bilateral symmetry, female hygiene instructions -> less bilateral symmetry, Birdcage set-design. You can't really do anything about dirty minds(like mine).

All the smoothness and perfect symmetry is awful unnatural looking, although that kind of fits with an Austrian renaissance garden look.
