View Full Version : Deviant Art Group

Since, I saw no decent mapping groups on DeviantART this morning when 'Groups' went live, I decided to make one.
I would appreciate any of you who have DeviantART accounts to join and start submitting your art.

I headed over there and tried to join but it said join requests aren't working? Perhaps there's a setting that needs to be tweaked...

02-11-2010, 03:51 PM
well, it says "join requests are closed at this time"
Is there a specific procedure to join the group?

Sure enough, Setting is changed and you should now be able to join and view the galleries, etc.

cool initiative! I'm a member now :D

Great, glad to see it worked. Does anyone have a 100x50 image that could be used for the groups' avatar handy?

02-11-2010, 05:44 PM
maybe the banner from the guild can be used? (e.g. the compass).. I think the facebook page also has a logo woich might be used... Not up to me of course, I guess the Admins of the guild know about this stuff ;) ... btw is it possible to link to the real guild site from the DA group? cheers

02-11-2010, 05:56 PM
Yes, I put a link to the forums here on the 'About us' page. If the admins of the site don't mind, I think the banner here would be fitting, if it was resized of course. Where is this Facebook page BTW?

I joinded. Cool idea.

That's funny, I was just thinking it'd be nice to have a cartography group there. =)
I'm joining asap :D I call myself Dwylaw there, by the way.

Yep, using the banner is fine on the links page but it's best if we come up with our own logos for the DA group as it is a separate entity to the guild.

02-12-2010, 11:07 AM
I guess we should at that, but it has to be 100x50. Kind of a shame they won't allow a square 50 x50 image or something.

Also, If it's alright with you guys, I'd like to make Djekspek, and Torstan group leaders/admins/whatever. We need some people on there that have a bit more experience and time in this community than I do.

I would have thought we'd be able to fit the little animated gif in there somewhere? It's here:

If you're saying that DA will only take 50 by 50 images then I'm sure we can get something in that vein to use as a link back to here.

I'm more than happy to help out though my time is a little limited.

02-12-2010, 01:09 PM
That icon is awesome, but DA won't allow anything other than 100x50. I don't know why they couldn't allow different resolutions, but whatever.
If any of the contributors have a chance, I've left a few of the submitted works 'Un-approved' could someone confirm that contributors have the authority to approve art?

02-13-2010, 07:35 AM
I've approved some of the works and also posted a journal with the info of the new group. This brought some new members.

what say you folks that the next lite mapping challenge be a banner design for the Guilds Deviant art group?

02-14-2010, 04:33 AM
I don't think this fits for the lite challenge; challenges should be map related. Instead, proposals could be posted here.

02-26-2010, 12:52 AM
I'll be joining ASAP. Good idea, by the way!

Anyone else besides me getting ominous messages from their anti-virus software besides me when they log onto DA? Is it just because of the links that people can post in their submissions that I'm getting messages like the one below?

03-03-2010, 04:35 AM
Must be the links, which one is doing that to you? I'm not having any problems from here (firefox, if it matters)
(going directly to the ip on the screenshot gives me "NO! BAD TOUCH!" but nothing from DA.. i meant which DA page did you try to load :) )

I've received no such message using IE or Firefox on either my work or home PC's

It's chrome. I think it dislikes some of the adverts and the sites that they link to. As the adverts are random you should be able to avoid it by going back and then reloading the page you were going to. Firefox and safari don't have any issues with it though.

Yeah, I think that must be it. All I tried to do was click on one of the new maps uploaded to the group, and I got zapped!!! :D

So, now I've been a member of deviant art for one week. I tried to buy a premium membership from day one, and I'm still not a premium member - thank you deviant support for quick and good replies... NOT! *sigh*, never thought it would be that hard to spend money :(
