Thread: The sun and shadows

Man I never thought of that. On the other hand the styles that I have seen so far for city mapping are very different. So different in fact that the shadow orientation is probably not going to be the first thing you notice. If we were all using the same or similar styles it would probably be more important.

I agree with Torq - I think that shadows are but one minor stylistic touch in a wide and varied compilation. I don't think that it matters all that much.

I agree but it was discussed in another thread that shadows should come from top left or else it doesn't look right. I don't necessarily agree whole heartedly with that but I modified my sun direction so that was the case.

I prefer for the Northern Hemisphere the Sun be positioned at bottom left, where the sun would be

Now, y'see, I would agree with that logic !

But doesn't that sort of depend on where North is?

It would But the area we are currently mapping is synonomous with Norther Europe, and the Sun would thus be in the 'southern' sky fo all intents and purpose.

Unless the map is drawn with north on a different side. Just saying...

Or the planet's axis of rotation is perpendicular to its planar rotation Makes a mess of the seasons, tho...
