An elaboration on a throne room with braziers tucked away in the side-niches.

I couldn't think of what to put in them other than maybe statues but...I think the lighting would be more interesting and possibly more ominous for a throne room with lights.

Just something of doodling.

I'm weak. I couldn't help myself. Once I put together the kitchen and the great hall from my previous posts I had to combine them together and voila - the corner of some small keep. Now I have to figure what goes on the other side of the barracks.

I can't really put anything blocking the main doors to the great hall so there will have to be some dead space to allow people to walk in and out more freely.

Any suggestions on what could be tacked on to either end?

Once more I wanted to cobble together some new structures out of the images provided by the D&D Supplement, Stronghold Builder's Guide.

So...

I started with the kitchen in the bottom left of the first image and the great hall in the top right of the other.

The great hall was a fun mod to do. First I stretched out the floor to add more room between the tables and the steps up to the riser. Then I added more space on the riser from the original image considering that this is head table and you don't want to cramp the style of the lord, baron, king or whoever's up there. Then, for fun, I added braziers in the niches on either side of the riser's steps and again on either side of the main door. On a cold night you don't want people freezing their bones while trying to have a feast.

But where does the food come from?

I shrank the kitchen a bit and tossed in a door for servants to carry trays of food into the main hall and such.

This could easily be incorporated into the corner of a keep or simple fortress.

Feel free to use it if you can.

Well, I'm back at it.

I've taken one of the free maps offered in the D&D supplement (Stronghold Builder's Guide) and wanted to make a better version of a guard house or barracks.

So I picked the top left room with the green bunks and started to add some details.

The first floor was easy to construct. I just duplicated the basic room, tossed in a set of stairs from the web and a landing to access the second floor. Since this is its own building, I added fireplaces in each room to keep the guards warmed in the winter months (I've been told that warm guards are happy guards and that happy guards mean a safe keep.) I also added a front porch for the structure with support beams (for the porch above) and simple split rails. With a few lanterns to keep things well lit the first floor was done.

For the second floor I continued the basic design and added fireplaces and a second floor porch (hey, guards might want to take their ease after their shift and the barracks are quite small). The chasm left by the stairs that climb up to the second floor were blocked by a rail with a second support bar hanging over the space to support a lantern.

I could use this building inside a keep or perhaps in a town.

Feel free to use if you like.

This is a community guild project to build a fantasy-type 'globe theatre' (request thread here: http://www.cartographersguild.com/ma...eatre-map.html).

Anstett has the basic floor plans (divided into six maps) and layout of the theatre, and myself, Meshon, and whoever else would like to assist will use this thread to make the objects (chairs; curtains; stages; open seating; sandbags? etc.) and textures (mostly wood I guess).

The entire theatre measures 300 feet by 150 feet, so each of the six maps will measure c. 100 feet square (ie 20 five-foot grid-squares across). At 100ppi this means each of the six maps measures 2000x2000 pixels. The scale for all objects and textures is thus 1 foot = 20 pixels; 5 feet (1 gridsquare) = 100 pixels = 1 inch when printed out.

In any case, anyone can contribute here, and all images uploaded in this thread can be used by anyone for NON-COMMERCIAL USE ONLY.

Step one is for Anstett to upload here his basic floorplans of the theatre.

So I've recently discovered using Blender for mapping, and I've started to work on some cyberpunk/modern maps.

My first real shot at a full building has been a storefront, sort of like the sort of thing one would see in a strip mall or similar small shopping center. I'm posting this here in a still mostly unfinished state-I hope to do several different builds after swapping out the furniture, carpets, and grounds to give essentially a row of buildings one could stack one on top of the other to make a whole shopping center quickly and easily.

Obviously this isn't all finished-the furniture that I have is pretty much the first inkling of what I need (a couple doors and a toilet do not a working building make), and this render isn't fully finished, but I'd also like feedback on the base proportions of the structure and such; is it too wide? Too thin? Have I totally lost my sense of scale?

EDIT: I know that the corners and such on the walls and floorboards are weird, I've fixed those since this render.

This is got to be the worst thing I came up with yet. I wish they had a few of these for reals to deal with prison overcrowding in the USA. This is a Rokat style of prison. My city is going to use this for a prison system so there is more money for the city's social services. This style of prison is used for only one purpose and that is to get rid of criminals really fast.

The first thing about this prison is that there are no utilities at all for the prisoners. I don't even know why I called the larger rooms showers, maybe they do turn the water on every now and then. There is no water or heat in the prisoner's areas. Only the guards have access to water and food. If a prisoner gets thirsty he must kill and drink the blood of another inmate. If he is hungry, he must kill and eat another inmate. The Observations Areas are for public viewing of the blood and carnage inside the yard of this pit of hell. It's called the pit because there is no way out and bones will pile inside until all the prisoners are dead that they open the gate to clean it. Prisoners are thrown in from the air. They are just dropped in from a helicopter or thrown over the side of the second level. Either way, it's no easy drop from 20 feet onto the stone floor. Only the strongest prisoners live in this place and even they don't last long.

I was just in a bad mood today about a certain neighbor I would love to throw in there. Anyway, only the most hardened and violent criminals would be thrown in The Pit. This structure is 103 by 103 feet, relatively small.

I haven't seen many floor plans for building on here. I have a very good medium sized castle/fortress that is designed for a hill top. The castle was part of a story I have in my book. I don't have any backstory for this map other than the structure by name appears in my book. It's the royal house of a mountain kingdom that gets invaded, but the story is vague and has tons of room for develpment.

First off, I'm not entirely sure if this is supposed to be here or in city mapping. If it's in the wrong thread, feel free to move it. Thanks.

So this is a sketch for my next (attempt at a) project. It's a ruined fort, abandoned for who knows how many years, if not centuries. It was recently found and claimed by a group of adventurers. The lighter green is the forest and trees surrounding the ruin. The blue is, obviously, some sort of shallow stream that provides fresh water to the adventurers. The black and brown are the ruins and new, wooden structures for defense respectively. The dark green is a path that formed due to the coming and going of the people who now stay there.

The entire clearing can be crossed in a matter of minutes so the place is not big at all. With about twenty adventurers the entire ruin is full.

I did have some questions though. I've got one tree tutorial but that's for large overland maps, here it would look more like ugly shrubs. So I'd like to ask you guys if you have any good ways to generate some close up trees. And while I'm at it a tutorial for ruin like stones/walls would be nice as well.

Oh right, I work in GIMP only but I can probably turn a PS tutorial into a GIMP one in my head.

Thanks in advance.

Real life has kept me far too busy lately - but I have been tinkering around with a new project (though my track record with finishing these hasn't been so great - I do hope to eventually finish some of the maps I've started and posted on this forum).

So, PCs want to incorporate a pirate-type element into the game. I thought as a good introduction to that, I'd use the U1 old-school d&d adventure modified to take place in the Al-Qadim world. The first part of this adventure has them exploring a "Haunted House" only to discover that it is really a secret smugglers den. The second part will have them assault the smuggler's ship (which I'm really looking forward to trying to map). I didn't particularly like the original floor plan for the house provided in the adventure, so I heavily modified a basic floor plan for an Al-Qadim style mansion provided in those source books. In the end, it will have everything needed to run U1, but things will be moved around a bit.

So, without further ado - this is what I have so far. It was created in CC3 with objects and textures that can be found on the Dunjinni Forums or CGtextures.com. I used Photoshop to do the labeling. Comments and criticisms are as always welcome.

Next step is doing the 2nd floor and basement

Some players of mine have set up a retirement project for their characters (yeah for optimism...) and want to buy themselves an inn...

Initially, in a bit of metagaming, they wanted to buy the Jumping Dwarf inn from a one shot I ran for some of them...

But I decided that such a project deserved more...

So I started to work on a bigger project.
Ultimately, I'd like it to be three+ stories high, with the ground level for the restaurant (one of my player has already taken points in "profession: cook" and pestering my NPCs for recipes... It's a bit awkward around mind-flayers...).
The next levels will be rooms for the customers and, on a roof, the stairs will lead to two "towers", two stories high (where I plan my players to set up their private quarters).

So, without more ado, here is the ground level...

I still have to add all the shadows, the doors and the windows and the light effects... I don't yet know if it will come furnished or if I'll let them take care of that...
I might also put a row of pillar in the middle to support the second floor and make use of this big space... It could also use a chimney or two, I suppose...

Anyway, second floor should come soon enough. Until then; let me know if you have any suggestion, comment or question.

Awhile back I started mapping out the "Master of Desert Nomads" Module (X4) with CC3...got side-tracked along the way...and have now decided to come...

Awhile back I started mapping out the "Master of Desert Nomads" Module (X4) with CC3...got side-tracked along the way...and have now decided to come back to it...at least for now...You can see the other 2 maps i've done for it here and here.

The final sequence in the module involves an Abbey that has been quietly taken over by "Bhuts" posing as monks. Its a large complex with lots of areas to explore and lots of fun encounters...plus there is a catacombs.

Because the area of the Abbey is way to large to print out as one battle map (400' x 300'), I figured that I would create one map file with 3 different views. One view will be the whole Abbey complex that can be printed out on letter-sized paper. The other two views will have the roof hidden and just show floor plans of the buildings (some have 2 floors). For these, I will zoom in and print out the parts I need in battle-grid scale.

So, here is my progress thus far on the first view. Super special thanks to Joachim for pointing out that CC3 has a roof building function (ProFantasy Community Forum - Making a Roof?). I'll post a higher res version once I get a little further along.

I welcome any and all comments, criticisms, and suggestions...particularly for the roofs in the NW...there are some odd shaped buildings and I'm having a hard time figuring out where the ridge lines should be...*Note, the labeling is largely just a place holder at this point...still need to pretty it up later on.

and here's the blacksmith's shed (small square building below the well)...not entirely happy with how the arch entrance turned out, but I suppose it will do until I can figure out a better way to do it. All symbols and textures were snagged/modified from stuff found on the Dunjinni Forums and CGtextures.com
