I used to hand draw maps when I was heavy into D&D starting some 20 or so years ago. I took about a 10 year sabbatical from gaming and mapping, though, and have recently gotten back into doing both. While I've always loved hand drawing maps, being able to use PS in order to pretty them up appeals to me greatly. I've followed a few tutorials and created these two admittedly very simple maps for a campaign that I'm going to be starting soon. I can only hope that they'll get better from here!

My name is Steffen, I'm a 24 year-old man from Norway who currently study archaeology at the University of Bergen.

A few months ago a D&D group emerged among my friends and soon I will be running a campaign (H2) as their dungeon master.
I like going the extra mile when I'm doing something I'm enjoying (who doesn't?), and drawing beautiful maps is what I'm aiming for this time. Today we use a dry erase homemade gridded map, but I want to serve my players with details whiteboard markers can't deliver.

The only problem with drawing beautiful maps is that I'm utterly terrible at drawing. Or perhaps more accurately, I have very little experience with drawing, or art in general for that matter. Experience comes from, well, experience, but I can't picture myself painting on a canvas or drawing a portrait, however I can quite vividly picture myself drawing maps.

So I am here to find tips and inspiration, and I'm sure I'll be successful finding both.

While I would not use any of the maps or names for reference, looking at them helps me form descriptions that are much more enticing. Dundjinni forums are where I posted most of my maps, as I used to use DJ exclusively. Over the last 2 years I've migrated to GIMP for primary map creation as I taught myself first by modifying the DJ creations and then by tutorials here. Anyway, Dundjinni forums are down, and have been for the better part of a month.

I'm running a Pirates of the Caribbean campaign at online-roleplaying.com using the Pathfinder rules, and while searching for sailing ships that I could use here (I created the main one for the game, but I don't have the hours to sink into making that many more) I came across someone asking for ship-to-ship combat rules. Bad form, I'm sure, but I posted in that thread first, and then figured I'd better come introduce myself.

Anyway, nice place you all have here.
