    Thanks DJ, As my first tought of doing the painting style with the symbols I used a redish paint like the political border dots but it was kinda messy then I left dark black. As I said I will work in some solution um my next map.

    This is a lovely example of a style that strongly resembles watercolor and ink. The rivers and red dot borders are the only things that stand out a little as not drawn or painted. The dots could easily be felt pen in a modern setting, but you could probably stamp dots with earlier technology (only you'd probably get more ink blur). Not sure how you'd get rivers to look like that with real media without markers.
