Most of us like to think of our dwarves in this regimented, organized, straight-line kind of thing and our elves more in tune with curves and ornamentation. It's profiling and profiling is bad
but most of us do our fantasy races like this. Sure someone's going to pipe up about how their elves are blocky and their dwarves are frivolous but those folks are the rare ones.

I was referring more to the fact of a multiple tiered city build into the side of a mountain. But Tolkien practically defined the genre, for better or worse, and now we have to determine just how much our elves and dwarves fit in with the Tolkein stereotype, and just how much they don't.
