I think it's fine without a compass. I find the approach really interesting, just drawing the roads as opposed to all the buildings. It gives it a nice, clean and easily readable appearance I think.
Map of the port of Oosra
This is a map using an underlay for landscape / ground. And then everything not nailed down to add detail. I would have inserted a compass but could not decide where to put it.
Suggestions to add buildings was interesting - so I have tried it.

Yeah, very different approach, but I think it turned out quite nicely as well.
