Milton's Eden
Attachment 49000
This past spring term, I worked on a map project for my literature class on Paradise Lost.
Milton: Paradise Lost - Introduction (link to the text)
I systematically picked apart Milton's references to Eden's visual characteristics, physical layout, and location in the world. Then I mapped it out in a fanciful, somewhat period appropriate style. I am certainly a novice when it comes to the artistic and design parts of map making, but I really enjoyed working on it, so I thought I would share it here.
The map was drawn in pencil (Papermate Sharpwriter), on a generic variety of drawing paper. The smudging on the title frame was a rather unfortunate result of turning it in (I scanned it afterwards). I have not altered it digitally except to crop out the region that the scanner recorded outside the bounds of the paper.
I have also attached a copy of my informal planning document for the map for anyone interested in connecting the text to the map.
