I tend to stick to Radio 4 shows (Friday night comedy, From Our Own Correspondent and In Our Time) to catch up with British radio an current events. But for actual music I use classical for work, and some electronica (Goldfrapp, Groove Armada, Mr Scruff) for mapping. Obviously Gershwin and Ella for mapping New York

It's a dirty secret, but I have a sordid affair with trendy American Pop...I railed against it all through Middle/High School but now in my later years I've simply come to accept that my musical tastes are generally shallow. As it is, I only really listen to music while I drive, and something with a driving bass line and an upbeat tempo compliments my speedy bob-and-weave approach to driving.

That being said, sometimes while I'm on my computer I'll wizz over to Youtube and bring up some great Orchestral music to feed the creative juices. Depending on my mood, it may be some John Williams (Star Wars, Jurassic Park, etc.) or some more classical composers (Orff, Tchaikovsky, etc.). All in all I don't really listen to music too often.

I'm an old school power rock maven with minors in Alternative, vintage grunge, and classic metal - examples:

    AC DC,
    Stone Temple Pilots,
    Nirvana,
    Pink Floyd,
    Led Zeppelin,
    Ronnie James Dio,
    Soundgarten,
    ELO,
    LIVE,
    Cheap Trick,
Aerosmith (The early "not so trendy" stuff),
    Counting Crows,
Some of the better vintage KISS stuff,
    OZZY,
    Bad Company (BADCO),
    Evanescence,
    Some DEVO (The "catchy" tunes"),
Some Cinderella ("Last Train" and "Nobodie's Fool"),
    Some Peter Gabriel,
    Some Vintage YES,
    Some Vintage RUSH,
    The list goes on...

Also very fond of Stevie Nicks early stuff - but when I think of her in her "Hey Day", my face get's hot and I get a zit somewhere, lol.

I'm glad to see someone mention Blue Oyster cult, they're one of the bands that got me through my convalescence

Additionally, i'd call this a short list of artists that haven't been mentioned yet that I consider worth a listen (as in could not live without). I'm nothing, if not eclectic. I could spend a few hours going through my list of "must listen to", i think I have a terabyte or so of music archived right now.. I have a **huge** music collection.

    Mike Oldfield
    Vangelis
    Jarre (both of them)
    Thomas Dolby
    Heart
    Afro-Celt Sound System
    Deep Forest
    Alan Parsons Project
    Concrete Blonde
    Leonard Cohen
    The Moody Blues
    Queen

    My finished maps
"...sometimes the most efficient way to make something look drawn by hand is to simply draw it by hand..."

    QUEEN!!! - Man - I thought I forgot something...
    Also Sammy Hagar,
    Santana,
    Lenny Kravitz,
Stevie Ray Vaughn (SRV - RIP)
Geeze ' O ' Pete - this is getting exhausting, lol.

    @ Coyotemax.

    Wow, I just didn't see you as an alternative-emotional soundscape-days of future past-dance fusion-gay anthem-concept artistry-folk-rock-new wave-pop-electronica kind of guy.
