Wow, it has been forever since I posted.
Anyways, on to why I am posting today. I am working on building a website to be a resource for world builders. I'd love to link to the Guild here and take suggestions for other content people think would be useful.
I appreciate everyones time and hope you all are having a good day.
I have a number of science fiction and stellar cartography resources listed at the bottom of my blog, star identification sites and things like that. The internet stellar database is also good but I haven't put it through the wringer yet so I haven't listed it yet.
Unfortunately most of my environmental, geologic, and cultural resources are books so I can't offer you any web resources.
Thanks for the response. I understand that not everything is available on the web. What books do you recommend? If I don't have them I'd love to check them out. Just because it isn't online doesn't mean It should be ignored.
I try to keep this page of links up-to-date: http://enderra.com/world-building-resources/
As well as a list of worlds on the web, but here I am much more selective: http://enderra.com/worlds-on-the-web/
DK's publishing's Earth is a favorite of mine for general stuff geology and environments. I managed to pick up a copy of Susan L Woodward's Biomes of Earth for very little some time ago and its an excellent resource, although a new copy is a bit pricy (I haven't checked out her newer textbook on the subject).
If you can find a copy Wayne Douglas Barlowe's Expedition is a wonderful book, but it's out of print. There was a documentary made using it called Alien Planet and it's not bad, although it lacks much of the depth of the book. Xenology by Simon Spurrier is also well done and out of print despite it being fairly recent. James Cameron's Avatar - An Activist Survival Guide isn't as nice as the other two but it's still a good book and it's pretty inexpensive.
The Magical Society line of books are wonderful resources. The best of the bunch, Ecology and Culture, can be picked up for a song right now as the authors are moving and trying to liquidate their stock.
Were building Middle Earth as a large elevation model and map raster. Theres a thread about it here:
the site is:
and were using a lot of custom tools but theres a lot of chit chat about how were doing that spread over many forum posts here, on the medem forum and some others too.
Also we must not forget the CWBP our little guild world were all contributing too...
which is a kinda different approach but very awesome.
