Happened across this subject today on Yahoo... the pictures are absolutely stunning in nature. If they didn't have an explanation after each one, a person would be hard pressed to figure out what exactly they were.

They do look beautiful in a way (and thanks for posting the link, I really enjoyed them), but for me they were just reasonably easy photoshop jobs with some colour enhancement here and there of satellite images...or am I missing something?

Ravs - I believe they aren't photomanipulated - its just our mother nature making art 
EDIT: hmmm it's obviously not true for all of them... the bolivian rainforrest pic for instance...

Actually, tilt, that looks to me like a non-manipulated infrared photo (well, not manipulated except to shift the colors to the visible range).
