This was an idea that came to me tonight. It also turned into a experiment in creating things myself. All the elements except for the ground texture were created by me. :)

I like it, but my one "issue" is that the tree pattern is noticeably repeated.
I see what you mean. I need to draw a few more kinds of trees :)
Yeah, it might not be a repeated pattern but they're all the same size and shape. Pretty cool, though. I'd see me using this.
looks very nice.. got 2 little comments: the trees look rather large in comparison to the ruins. In addition to the comments above, try throwing a (or more) colored cloud layer (or the gimp equivalent) over the trees to tint them differently.
I agree about the repitition. But I love the way you have made the treed sections seem to have different heights!
Thanks for the feedback everyone. :) I decided to start this over with a bit more detail. I added towers to the ruins and am currently working on making some new tree brushes. :)

I decided that since I was starting this over, it would make sense to work on some details. I always enjoy encounter maps that are very detailed with lots of "bits and bobs" that help make the scene. I started work on that principle here. I also made everything bigger to get the scale a bit better. :)

And here is the "Original" version of this with some color variation on the trees. :)

I finally settled on some trees that I liked. I had originally layered the castle ruins and moved them a click or two over on each layer for a sense of depth but decided that I didn't really like the effect and went with a simple shading instead. All in all I like how this turned out. I think a encounter map of the floor plan of the main house may be next.... :)
