map border
How is a chequered border like the black/white one around "The Lands of Todes Grube". One can do it with a dashed brush, but how can black and white be distributed so that it always fits height and width? Help would be appreciated.

What software?
It's fairly simple in vector software like Inkscape or Illustrator.
It's a little more work in raster software. You might be able to work something out with the Grid tool in The GIMP if that's what you are using (I don't remember the details of the grid generator off hand but I know there is one.)

I've just worked out a way to do this reasonably easily without having to make brushes or use grids or mathematics....tutorial here.

THX for the answers.
O.k. the tutorial link doesn´t seem to work for me. I solved the issue for now with creating a chequered pattern I tried to fit as good as possible. Then I just cut out the parts I needed. It´s not perfect but it will do for now. I will post a wip picture.
