So I decided to give it a go...
This is the base map, small area in the Black Forest.
OpenStreetMap is open data, licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 licence (CC-BY-SA).
I think It´ll get something of a military map but first of all I´ve got to get the terrain right.

Even if I am correct, I would still advise you to follow your heart. This whole Cartographers Guild thing, it seems to me, is more about passion and skill and learning new techniques than it is about definitions and rules.

Looks like a great start! By the way, extra kudos (and some rep) for getting that mountain style to look good. I love it in other people's maps but try as I may I can never get it to work for me.

So something evolves. I have some hard times to achieve what I envision and I can´t get it quit right. But that´s what you get when you enter a challenge without knowing exactly if you can do it. As it is a challenge it keeps me focused. Little steps are better than none. It´s time to give out credit to ubersuper for the folded paper stuff and I´ll say in general CG Textures for the bench and the paper. Hope you enjoy.
Edit: There is a spelling error that is corrected ( hard instead of heart ). Walks of ashamed
