December Entry: The Lare under Keurn-lare-wyrm-01-01.jpg

After playing around in Painter some more, I decided to create something useful for a mountainey D&D campaign. Yes, I know - it's not yet a map. That will come. People looking at my maps have probably noticed a distinct lack of grids ... that's because I always DM old-school D&D campaigns that don't use miniatures or grids. We started back when the PHB explicitly said you didn't need miniatures and used feet and inches for everything, not "squares" ... and the only grids used were hexes on the terrain maps!

Anyway, this is going to be something like a little Nat Geo article on the Lare and habitat of a wyrm in the mountains. It'll probably end up as a two-page spread and the ageing is temporary fiddling on my part.

    Enjoie!

Ah, this reminds me of my December 2009 Challenge Map - Yuleblood. We were supposed to create a map of an Orc's Christmas. I created a map, but I also wrote a lurid poem of an orc raid and placed each stanza onto a single page with illustration - like a Children's Book. I look forward to seeing what you create.

Here's my full Yuleblood Children's Book PDF - enjoy!

a good start, I like the subdued colors - 2 things I noted. First, the text on line 2 and 3 hang in the Uncial and secondly - you have a LOT of hyphens, the hyphens are often credited to Gutenberg and as thus should not be used in pre-14something texts - secondly one, even today, should always strive to avoid hyphens if possible
sorry, its my many years with printing that shows its ugly head *lol*

Gameprinter: Thanks for the Orcish Yuletide book! It was a fun read

Tilt: Yeah, I know about the hyphens they're there on purpose, to make the text more annoying and look like it's been set by an enthusiastic band of adventurers who didn't want to spend any gold on getting a good type-setter or proof-reader for their promotional printed pamphlet (yes, yes, I has printing presses in my D&D) depicting how they will defeat the dragon and why they need the local merchants' support. I would however ask you to clarify what you mean by "hang in the Uncial"? That the letters should be outside the body text?

Anyway, here is most of the first page done.

hehe... ok, given the premises for your story I guess you're ok, although color printing is pretty advanced ... concerning the Uncial problem - what I'm talking about is that the normal text is overlapping the red uncial - and since printing is done with lead blocks that is just not possible (and if it was hand drawn one would not do it either).

Ahhh ... yes, good point. Overlapping glyphs would have been rather odd, right? Hmm ... I'll think on it. I've got snowed under by other work and this one is going to be a bit rough to finish the way I wanted to. Maybe for Christmas. If my hands don't freeze!
