January/February 2012 Lite Challenge Entry: Frontier Compass Rose

Everything begins with and idea and a quick doodle ... a rustic compass rose made from logs and rope.
(this time there will be at least one entry for sure ... and an embarrasing one if I forget to update this WIP.)

Modeled some different proportions over lunch ...
I think that I am leaning towards the heavy logs.

Neat. Each one has a different feel to it. The thinnest one reminds me of a dream catcher. Mystical native American style compass would be pretty cool. Heaviest one says logging camp to me. Middle one I'm not sure on. Seems a bit nautical. I never realized that something as simple as thickness says so much. Very cool.
So, adjusting the proportions and laying out some lines ...
Add some shading ........................... and some shadow ...
