Default November / December 2012 Lite Challenge: Octonia

Long ago, the last titan walked slowly out into the great Turnwise ocean. He gathered all his power together and manifested a great block of octiron in the shape of the octagon, symbol of magic. Upon that block, he raised a central pedestal and outer perimeter. His last work complete and his last iota of energy spent, he fell down and died at the heart of his great creation. For millenia, the block slowly weathered and was covered over by the infestation of life that the titan had been unable to stop. Even his flesh was consumed, leaving only his spines and shells as markers of his existence.

Some two hundred years ago, people arrived at the great creation. They christened it Octonia and emplaced a few settlements on the shores and in the dense forests. They eventually explored to the heart of the island and marveled at the great crystal spires, arches, and rounded buildings they found there. They named this crystalline place at the center The Celestial City and proclaimed that it would be a center of learning and magic studies.

In the last two hundred years, the crystal palaces have become a marvel of the world and they host one of the foremost centers of learning and magical studies in the universe. Magic just seems easier there, for some reason.

Nice map waldronate! The background story really adds to it. It is always nice to see your realistic looking terrain forced into a shape you would not expect to find in nature. ^^ It is indeed a very "fantasy looking" map.
