December 2012 Entry: Camelback Mountain

Ok, honestly, I've been so busy this month that this is the one and only day I'll have to work on this. So, this shall be my attempt at a speed painting for Camelback Mountain which is a really popular hiking area for people in the Phoenix area. Every now and then they have to use helicopters to rescue people who get off the trails and into trouble. Now and then someone falls to their death...well that or heat stroke if they try during the summer. Anyway, there is an incredible view of the Phoenix valley once you reach the summit.

Hopefully I will get something up here soon. I wish I could record my creation of this but I have yet to get anything like that set up.

Alrighty, between the phone calls and whatnots I got this much completed, so here we go.

Redid the trail labels, I wasn't happy with the first ones. Also, it's good to sign your work, haha.

Whipped up a Gila Monster which is one of the wildlife you shouldn't mess with if you run into while hiking the mountain.
If I can I'll draw up some more of the kinds of things you might see.

Thanks, it's funny how some things just turn out. I was thinking the whole time that I would probably end up just chucking it in the bin.

I can't stop touching these labels so here is a more muted version of them and I think it works better with the overall map tbh.

I thought it was looking more volcanic than it really is so I made some changes there.

For the record this is only a few miles from my house and I can see it from my front yard.

You said mountain , but I kept seeing shading in the west that looked like depressions instead. So I googled the place --- duuuh, I guess when it says Echo Canyon Trail I should have expected, you know, maybe some kind of canyon? Sheesh - I amaze myself. Nice work!
