Thread: Aug/Sep Lite Entry - City of Gold

Actually what might be neat is to set it up as a desert oasis.. that way you get the best of both worlds! (I just watched The Mummy Returns with my wife, and the valley they ended up in wasn't too far off what you have - right down to the pyramid, lol)

That having been said, there's no reason a scifi theme couldn't be used...

The theme is GOLD, so it doesn't matter if you create a realistic map, a fantasy map or a sci-fi map. A sci-fi map could certainly get my vote.

Definately. Sci-fi is cool. And you'd get to make up great reasons for them to have gold-plated housing - some special kind of radiation? Maybe something in the atmosphere?

Or they're actually using something else (lead?) as building materials, and something causes it to "rust" into gold - mixing alchemy into the concept as well!

I was thinking about making a mining colony, and the radioactive materials in the ore requires the use of gold-plated housing

And gold-particles in the glass parts, of course. Where do they get the gold, though? Abundant on the planet, or brought in from elsewhere? Where does the ore go? You'll need docks of some kind, I'm guessing, for the transporters to and from the place.
