Question Top-view tree/woods texture in Inkscape?

    Howdy artists!

New here and I must say, I saw some impressive work around!

I am myself searching for a way to draw woodlands on a top-view map, that will be used for a board wargame. You know, a geomorphic hex map ála Advanced Squad Leader and such (in fact, the game for which the map would be is Valor and Victory). Here is a sample that I would like to get close to:

Can someone suggest a vector technique in Inkscape to get such results?
I would like to avoid using bitmap textures...

    Here is a quick tutorial.

The more time you spend adding detail the better the pattern will end up.

    Thx Rob!

    Very good

I will eventually also post some finished map once ready, just to honor your advice...

Would anybody happen to have a gimp brush for this, preferably a little more detailed then what RobA posted?
