Thank you for the opportunity to be part of such a prestige’s guild. The art work I have seen in my short time in guild is amazing and truly inspiring.
The reason why I became a member of this guild is to learn how to draw Tactical Maps from historical battles. I’m currently working on a project that involves reinvigorating of these battles. Now I’m an old Corel Draw user, but I’m finding that we are a dying breed. So I am being forced to learn Photoshop, which is about time.
I own a book named 'Battles that changed history' released by Amber Books Ltd. This particular book contains the most beautiful tactical maps. If any of you Legendary Cartographers could just point me into the right direction where to start, Ill really appreciate it. Find a copy of one of the maps attached to my post.
    Warm regards

Well, the first thing you need to figure out is the scale of the map you want to make. There is galaxy map, solar system map, world/planet map, continent map, country/nation map, regional map, city map, building map, dungeon map, and ship map (starship or sailing ship), etc. Once you know that then you can look in the tutorials for the appropriate scale if you like. Sometimes the style you want to do is not exactly represented so you have to make things up as you go. There are as many styles, or more, as there are scales. The best thing is to go through a few different tuts just to learn the techniques and once you feel like you have the techniques down then start adapting them to where you want to go.

Thank you for the warm reception. I have my work cut out, but with all you geniuses as advisers I do hope to make this a success.

@Ascension. I am currently working through your tutorial named: 'My Atlas Style in Photoshop'. I have done everything as you said up an till step 21. I do the following: Command+click on the 'base' layer (in the layers palette) and the layer get selected on the canvas. I go to 'Select > Inverse' and then I get a pop-up stating the following: 'Warning: No pixels were selected'. Everything has been going well up to this point. I appreciate your assistance in this regard.
