    Default Hello!

    Hello all, I am Chris Goodwin, from Hillsboro, Oregon. I've looked in here a few times and am always blown away by the maps I see. Just recently, the "Wheel of ADD" (as I fondly refer to it) has spun round to modern type stuff, so I'm going to be looking for things like modern city streets, cars, buildings, and so forth (at least until the Wheel spins 'round again). Right now I'm looking at Dungeonforge, though I also have GIMP but haven't tried it for anything yet.

    Hi Chris, great to see another Oregonian here at the Guild! I am currently living in New Zealand, but Oregon is my stomping ground (I've lived in Sandy, Troutdale and Corvallis). As to what software to use, well, depends on what you want to do with it. Ravells has a good introductory guide called "Quickstart Guided to Fantasy Mapping" (a link to which can be found in the sticky at the top of the Member Introductions section) which I would recommend reading. It doesn't hurt to have multiple options though. You might also want to check out the tutorials section to see what types of maps you can make with various programs.
