Hey, I just wanted to say hello to everyone here :)
Recently I got interested in cartography by browsing some galleries on deviantart. I was especially amazed by the works of Djekspek so I've decided to give it a go and try to follow his fantasy map tutorial.
I cannot really draw, I made a few tries over the years reading books and copying stuff, but it's not really my thing. However drawing this small island was really fun and I felt quite satisfied when I finished the sketch.
So, here I am among great artists presenting my little sketch of Awyr Island and hoping to learn from the best ;)
Oh and sorry for the paper :P
Welcome to the Guild, The Mappiest Place on the Web :)
You will be happy to know that DJ is a high;y thought of member here at the guild and he is quite active too. I can see some of his influence in your map and I like the line wieght giving the image depth. :)
Also, have some rep for posting a nice start to a great map in your first post here at the Guild :)
You should also start up a WIP (Work In Progress) thread with this because this is where you will get a LOT of help with all kinds of questions and suggestions on how to make it better.
Thanks Korash! :)
Djekspek invited me here and suggested me to post this sketch.
Thank you for the rep and for the info!
Welcome to the Guild Diego Malatesta! That's a nice first map sketch, especially for a guy who doesn't fancy himself much of a drawer. Just imagine what you could do with a bit more practice! Look forward to seeing where this might lead.
Thank you Arsheesh.
Now I'll have to find a few tutorials on how to finish this map ;)
Nice map... I love the B&W hand drawn stuff. Nice depth and shading on the mountains. If I get stumped in Photoshop I often hand draw elements to scan and use.
