Welcome Aboard!
Hello there,
I am a longtime tabletop RPG-er who uses a mac and is hoping to get some mapping skills to make some purty maps. Torstan's old-school map tutorial for GIMP was extremely helpful, as I am not much of a graphics person. I'm trying to get a few old school modules together for eventual publication, but the more I can do "in house" (layout, maps, etc.) the easier it will be.
I'm also a frequent denizen of Dragonsfoot and a few other old-schooly RPG boards.

You've got a mac and you don't do graphics??? Got to put that bit right soon!

Heh, I've been working on Macs since OS 6. Never been a graphics guy. I am a tech support guy and one of the only mac-savvy ones at my job. Most of my "graphics" work is painting minis for my games.
I'm enjoying fiddling with GIMP and Pixen though. And being able to make cool maps for my adventures would be very rewarding. Once I feel comfortable with the "TSR retro" maps, I'd love to learn how to make "prettier" maps, maybe like the ones from LOTR.
The LotR maps where a big inspiration to me as well, if you are planning on getting Campaign Cartographer the Overland black and white style is quite similar.
