Welcome, theres plenty of folk in similar position. Good place to start is on the finished maps and theres a thumbnails thread there to make browsing easier. Look at the maps you like and check the threads for them and see who and how they did it.

Hello all, I'm new here... I have been dreaming of creating (more like finishing) an Advanced Dungeons & Dragons world for approx. 6 years now, and well the worst part of it for me is mapping. Writing stories and what not, that is easy. Making a map of a world that is amazing, interesting, and even somewhat realistic...now that is the real challenge.
I guess I come here is search of help, or maybe just to chat you people up and get some new ideas. I dont know yet. I guess we just have to wait and see where this goes
