Many of the talented veterans here at the Guild have posted tutorials to help walk mapping novices like you and I through the process of fantasy map-making from start to finish. I highly recommend checking them out (they are found in the "Tutorials" sub-forum). Also, if you are currently working on any map projects (or plan to in the near future), post your WIP map in the appropriate sub-forum and you will receive a bunch of helpful feedback on how to improve and/or polish your map. Looking forward to seeing your work.
