- When I was a kid, I drew maps. And every map has a story in it which I would make up. Or I'd make up a story and draw a map. I put books under my bedroom rug to make mountains and built cities with Lincoln Logs (Lego like).
At university, I majored in Geography. I was drawn to Physical, Cultural, and Political Geography. My father was a geographer and built (with others) a huge (about two persons high) globe of Earth (cities in red; otherwise, natural) that sits in one of the school's lobbies.
I moved permanently to Europe in 2007 and left my day-job in 2010. A friend was writing a book and I did a four-part drawing of the story. After that, I connected the memory of the episodic thrillers at the Saturday matinee with map making and with stories. Since I began seriously, late 2009, I've had a website.
My partner looks at my drawings and tells me if she likes them or not. But no one else has said a single word - nada. So, I enjoy the website and the work for my own satisfaction and pleasure. Which is the point after all.
Exchanging comments with this site has turned me upside down. All these people talking about maps and making imaginary places live.
