About jgvaughan
I’ve been involved with role-playing for over 35 years. It all started back in 1975 while I was in the military stationed in Japan. A group of us were tabletop gamers playing various wargames (Panzer Blitz, Panzer Leader, Stalingrad, etc.). I don’t know if it was a natural progression or not but we came across the Chainmail rules for miniatures. Needless to say, one thing led to another and we were staring at the original boxed version of Dungeons & Dragons by G. Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson. It wasn’t long before our days off were spent developing our little world. Then came along Judges Guild and their unbelievable City State of the Invincible Overlord. In no time, we had a room plastered with all the world maps, the city maps, and we were running marathon sessions of D&D. Unfortunately, as usual, all good things have to come to an end, as each of us were transferred to other posts throughout the world.

Slowly but surely I developed another group of adventurers but like before transfers and separations brought groups to an end. That led me to try the play-by-email route and then I came across some of the early play-by-post sites. My success with these sites have been varying. I’ve found that you have to have patience, develop a mature group of gamers, and then work your butt off keeping things going.

It wasn’t long before a group of friends asked if we could start a tabletop gaming group that would meet on a regular basis. So once again, I plastered the walls with the maps from Judges’ Guild’s world and watched the group developed into a fairly dedicated and successful adventure. But as always, all good things come to an end.

That brought me to RPoL where I’ve tried all kinds of games. Met some really great people and not so great people. Regardless, I have tried to persevere and feel that for me, RPoL is the best environment for my role-playing interests. The background information for my games on RPoL is hosted at Virtual 4 Sight.Original D&D, and Pathfinder, and are the systems that I have chosen to focus on. My Original D&D games take place in the World of Greyhawk and my Pathfinder games will be based in the Wilderlands of High Fantasy or the world developed by the Vintyri Project. My games only use the specific rules systems and use very little of the background information of the worlds that have been developed for those rules systems. The background information is specific to the geographic worlds I am using.

Another area of interest is in Fantasy Mapmaking. I had initially tried to work with different software packages, Campaign Cartographer, Fractal Mapper, and Dundjinni. I found the learning curve for the first two more than I preferred to attempt and the third, Dundjinni, well let’s just say after being screwed out of my money and not receiving the product due to some lame excuses by the folks that moderate their website, I’ve chose to stick with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop for my mapmaking endeavors. I have setup a blog area on my personal website where I will post my experiences, etc. and hopefully some appreciable maps. Most will be for my own campaign setting but who knows what I might create.

In addition, I am working on a Medieval Economics rules system that can be used in any D20 game environment. A lot of the material I have obtained for my research can be found on Virtual 4 Sight. You can find a bibliography of the resources as well as links to websites that have proved helpful and enlightening. Except for my actual work on the rules system, none of the material presented there is to be mistaken as my own work. A lot of it is reproduced there in order to make it easier for those interested in my rules system to understand what I have based my rules system on.
