I love the style. How did you get the grass and road texturing? (It seems you use similar texturing techniques in several of your maps for other terrain types such as the earth in "Temple Depths" and the snow in "Port Kullen", right?)
So, how do you get those textures? I've tried doing something similar in GIMP but I just can't seem to nail it down.
I cheat! Quite a while back an artist called Steve Argyle did a tutorial and he said he almost always uses a random texture (rust/metal/stone/whatever) for his work because it feels more real than a flat canvas. What you do is you take a random high resolution texture, make it the TOP layer, set it to OVERLAY, and set the opacity to about 10%.
So that is what I do most of the time. I am quite fond of one specific blue-ish rust texture much of the time, but you can use just about anything.
Thanks for that, I had been playing with overlay - just couldn't get the right texture for it. Your tutorial however, not only inspired me, but also provided a link to the texture you use.
