Californian, grew up in the Bay Area. Am a writer and hobby-level graphic designer. I'm working on my first fantasy novel set in a fantasy land I like to call Cranthem.
It's kind of a medieval-theme land, with a twist. What type of twist? A little Frontier flavor.
If you are wondering if Cranthem sounds familiar - yes I had some old posts on here a while back asking for a map of Cranthem. The story that went with the map and the map itself are not in use anymore as I've decided in a different direction.
I'm a bit of an amateur cartographer.
My map making strengths:
- Coming up with location names, that are usually pronounceable.
My Map Making weaknesses:
- Terrain (Mountains, Rivers, Forests)
Programs I Use (for graphic design and maps):
- Gimp (Intermediate to Advanced). There's quite a bit I know about GIMP. However I also am still learning new things, and that's a good thing.
- Pixelmator (Beginner). I'm getting the hang of this program, but the steps it requires to complete a task sometimes seem counterproductive.
I mostly enjoy seeing what this community does with the maps. The talent level on some the maps is amazing.
I'm willing to try to create maps for people to practice and improve upon my skill. My biggest challenge is trying to create mountains that are proportionate to the size of the map needed, and to look great.
