Just got signed on today and loving it! I wanted to make a map of middle earth for Doming12.com...which is a gaming Risk site that is free...thought what about LOTR copy rights?
Can you help? I made the map and the site says they are afraid of getting sued. I don't know the rules.

    Hiya Redrobes,

Didn't want to ninja the thread but you mentioned you play networked XBox ... I too am an avid XBoxer, what types of games do you play? I'm always up for some multiplayer Left4Dead2, RockBand, and have several other multiplayer games (though I'm not into the type where X number of players go into a fixed map and try to shoot each other, I get bored too quickly). If your tastes are compatible, I'll PM ya with my gamertag and you can friend or not as you prefer

Stitching points into a model using MeshLab

by Redrobes on 02-04-2011 at 09:20 AM
Ok so we have the points, lets make a mesh - a polygon model of the building. In MeshLab clean up some of the stray points. You can do that by selecting points and deleting them. The selection icon is the one with three dots and the cursor arrow. Click that and drag out a box over some points and they turn red to show they are selected. The delete is on the far right which is the three dots and a triangle with a big X through it.

Once you have the vertices for the building without

Insight3D

by Redrobes on 12-01-2010 at 02:44 PM
So this Insight3D is a gem of an app. You can find it here:

http://insight3d.sourceforge.net/

As stated on the page "it hopes to be "Photosynth + Canoma". Or "boujou + Imagemodeler". But it's also free and opensource (GNU AGPL 3)" - ok thats me sold then... Its not quite up to the mentioned apps but its heading in the right direction and seemed very stable to me. At this point its not super user interface easy but once you have run it through a few times then its not

My blog about some extreme 3D stuff

by Redrobes on 12-01-2010 at 01:29 PM
I thought I would start a blog about some tech stuff that I have mentioned in the past on various posts but I thought it would be better if I brought it all together. I don't expect that this will be relevant to many people but I am forever surprised by the few who do post in some amazing related links to the bizarre stuff that I post sometimes and these make it all the more worthwhile. I think within these posts will be some gems and some of it will seem a little extreme now but in a few months
