Been into role playing games for quite some time, started with AD&D 2nd and FF2 (IV) however many years ago that was. Always loved the maps that accompanied RPGs, but I usually just stuck to quick hand drawn maps for my gaming sessions. Eventually that turned into me slowly creating a new campaign world, and then that world became the foundation for me trying to write a book.
Tried using RPG Maker XP to build a map for my world, but I felt like I was constantly trying to create or edit tiles to make areas have some level of uniqueness to them...I guess I never realized how "samey" 16bit style world maps were until I was building one.
Just now working on a big digital version of my map in GIMP, and I found this place while looking for tutorials on how to improve its progress.
