Personally, I prefer the first one better, but I would have add either some gray shade or color shade to the map to made it easier to read.
I would love to be able to do the same style with portion of my game map we are using :(.
Here I try a fast shade color.

I have always liked the artistic potential of the mountaintop viewpoint map. Lots of old city maps were drawn that way.
