Here is an article on drawing maps for fiction works. Pretty good except for the nasty forking rivers. I was going to post a comment to that effect, but didn't want to sign up at yet another site...
One of the last paragraphs jumped out at me:
Interesting...If you submit your novel to a pro publisher, do not offer your fantasy map with the manuscript. Once you sell it, send your map and any sketches to the professional illustrator the publisher hires for your cover and any interior illustrations. Publishers only buy author art for art books. Author art can help sell your book on your website, though.
