    Initial steps:

    Current Plan:
    Hair = Forest
    Forehead = Open Plains
    Facial Hair = Light Forest/Scrubland
    Eyes/Nose/Mouth = Lakes/Mountains/Hills

    Thanks to OldGuys tutorial for helping to give Mr. Shakespear a realistic coastline without loosing a recognizeable shape.

    I'm thinking of basing the map on an oil painting - the Flowers Portrait - rather then the print I started with. Experimenting with coming up with a good final look for it. Here's a detail of what I've got so far.

    Very cool Idea

    Even if I am correct, I would still advise you to follow your heart. This whole Cartographers Guild thing, it seems to me, is more about passion and skill and learning new techniques than it is about definitions and rules.
