Wip [WIP] World Map - Reinos Imortais

I am still learning the tools of mapping. To do this map I am using CC3 and FT3 (only to to do a copy/paste in some of the small islands) from ProFantasy. I have put a lot of hours in the process and I have already deleted a good numbrs of othres versions. In this version I have my landmasses completed but I am still rearranging some islands and putting some more (they are small and cannot be seen in this scale). NOW I am in the hard work of doing my height contours. My current palete colour is this one based on the colours of CC3:

    LANDMASS - COLOUR 86
    500m - COLOUR 87
    1 000m - COLOUR 88
    1 500m - COLOUR 89
    2 000m - COLOUR 90
    2 500m - COLOUR 91
    3 000m - COLOUR 92
    3 500m - COLOUR 107
    4 000m - COLOUR 106
    4 500m - COLOUR 105
    5 000m - COLOUR 104
    5 500m - COLOUR 103
    6 000m - COLOUR 102
    7 000m - COLOUR 250
    8 000m - COLOUR 251
    9 000m - COLOUR 252
    10 000m - COLOUR 253
    11 000m - COLOUR 254
    12 000m - COLOUR 255

And here is my world view and 5 "zooms" of the areas that I put more effort in the contours lines and 1 zoom of my "island fragmented area". Tell me what you think please =)

The highest point on Earth is 8,848 meters. While going past that is not in essence a problem, i'm not sure it's realistic to have a 12,000m+ mountain.

However, explain it through magic, or tons of tectonic activity. The more important thing is that no one will be able to climb that without basically a spacesuit.
This cavern is below all, and is the foe of all. It is hatred, without exception. This cavern knows no philosophers; its dagger has never cut a pen. Its blackness has no connection with the sublime blackness of the inkstand. Never have the fingers of night which contract beneath this stifling ceiling, turned the leaves of a book nor unfolded a newspaper.

Actually, slightly lower gravity or lower density rocks ... and you can go past 12,000 metres. If you add a bit less erosion (maybe a drier atmosphere? no ... not with that many seas) ... anyway. Drop the planet's gravity to 0.9g and you can hit 12k easily.

Don't aircraft pilots need oxygen masks above 12,500 feet (close to 3800 m)?
Forget the 12 km peak, most of the highlands may be unbreathable.

I would just half the scale, but it is your world ... so have fun.

Ok, ok... Maybe I stay with "only" 10 000 m!

Well Ringworld (Niven) is 153 giga meters in radius (a ring roughly long enough to wrap around our sun at the distance of earth's orbit), and 1.6 giga meters wide with rim walls about 1,600,000 meters high to keep in air and such.

    I'm just saying... 8 )

I think somebody mentioned once that was about the surface area of a million Earths, now imagine you can put one of those (at least) around every moderate sized sun in the galaxy, that runs to about 100 to 200 billion Ringworlds (assuming stars roughly the size of our sun and only 1 Ringworld per star) in total, which is roughly the surface area of 200,000,000,000,000,000 Earths.

So you were mapping to what scale again?

I am not SO megalomanic! The map has 35 000 km X 17 500 km. I have already changed the maximum height to 11 km. Lets see how it goes. I am still in a lot of try and error as this is my first map (actualy the thrid or forth version of the same map).

Very cool, there are plenty of threads here with really good tips, I'm in the same boat, just started my own map over in the SciFi section, mapping an entire galaxy (course not 1:1 scale, heh) for my own campaign. Biggest challenge is how to portray something that size in digestable chunks for the viewer.

Cheers and will check out your progress as you post it.

The highest permanent settlement in the world is at about 5,000 meters, or 16,000 feet.
