I am working on a top down antique style map and was wondering how to make an effective looking gorge for the map?
Help?
Oh and I am using Ascension's antique tutorial for this process.
Thanks in advance :)

That's a good question. My first thought is that you'll have to hand draw it in an isometric view (3/4 top down) or something more icon-like so that you can get all of the descriptive lines in there. This goes in stark contrast to the mountain style used on Mercator maps (fuzzy caterpillars). I'll look through my collection to see if there's anything there that can be co-opted but I don't remember anything off the top of my head. Maybe someone else has a link.
are you doing it as strictly top down, or semi-isometric landscape features? (mountain and trees from the side with shading, etc)
If doing it as the fuzzy caterpillar/paramecium style, i imagine you could put the lines inside a shape..
Well I think my mountains and trees will be isometric, so I guess the gorge should be as well no?
Which also reminds me I gotta do some cliffs at some point and a waterfall.
Yikes... this is getting complicated ;)
I'd stick with the iso-metric-ish look.
Agreed. :)
Now if I only knew how to do that ;)
Anyone got a tutorial or some such?
Here's one way of doing a gorde. A quickee gorge sketch.

Thanks I will use it as a guideline :)
Just giving you ideas is all. How 'bout this one? More like a desert canyon...
In both cases I also show the end of the canyon, on one side anyway. Make sure the higher ground slopes down to the water level, as that will be ground level beyond the area of the gorge.

And I am super appreciative of them sir, please don't take anything I said in my last post as disrespectful at all. I meant it, I want use yours as a guideline :)
Funnily enough that's where I need this one for... the desert/scrub.Quote:

Let me see what I can do :D
And thanks again. :)
