First time map any tips?

I'm new to the site and working on an island and Archipelago set.

I make use of Wag's mountain brushes.
Really they aren't all mine. This map is one I've been editing for a friend of mine for something he is doing on the /tg/ board. I plan making some whole cloth though. I'm working on world building for a novella I might do and i would love to be able to make a map of the setting.

Hey everyone I recently suffered a massive hard drive failure....and lost everything. I was using a really good tutorial but I can't remember the name of it. It was a gimp tutorial for building A detailed overlay map.
Can you help me!
Sounds like it is probably RobA's tutorial. Have a look at the tutorial section, sort the posts by number of views and his will be near if not at the top.

Yeah its the one I'm using right now. I can't seem to get the grass bump trick to work though. What did he mean by 50% gray?
