My First Galaxy Map
Hello there! This is my very first post here and I figured why not just jump into the water with a map!
So I've been toiling trying to create a decent map of the Mikey Way for a set of stories I want to write. I've seen some amazing stuff here and I figured I take a crack at making my own galaxy map. I'm still working in this and I'm not sure I like it. On the left you can see my map ad on the right is the original I based it off of.
Your thoughts and ideas would be very helpful.

So you are making a space game? Or simply space story?
Its to a story I've been mulling over. I have the characters, places, and empires developed somewhat. I've just been trying to develop a good map as a visualization. I wanted to do something more realistic looking like the map on the right, but that was getting to be a pain to make. I decided on something different. More Progress.
Sorry for not updating in a while. I've been dealing with work and getting ready to move. Its been hectic so I haven't had much time to develop my map more but this is what I have so far. I also must apologize for the length of the image. I made this quite hastily.
