    Wip The Rift Principalities

So, this started over here as a Challenge Entry.. unfortunately, since it is hand drawn, I ran out of time fairly quickly and could not complete it. However, I like the concept quite a bit and decided to keep going on the map.

The main things that have changed since the last challenge upload is:
    • significantly lighted up the "grass" area's
    • Added lava flowing off of the side of the "island" from the Volcano as well as added a mountain and a few hills (more to come) around the volcano.
I still plan to redo some of the under-islands to get them more in line with each other color wise as well as shading and stuff to add more dimension to the whole thing.

Looking good. I'd darken up the undersides to push them a bit more into the background, but it's coming along well.

Definitely like the lighter grass, much nicer.

Grr.... I wish I could just go straight through.... I have trouble getting the same colors when I split over sessions, so the new trees look different than the first ones... I think I really like the new way(created a brush..plan to create a few more and use a GIMP image hose for varied shapes) forests turned on on the top/mid left floating island... I REALLY am looking forward to GIMP 2.8 when layer groups are around... I may end up having to redo a number of layers (outlines mainly...)

Anyway... let me know if the new forests are a winner or not..

I like the way the new set of forests turned out Jfraz. Also, I'm with you about GIMP 2.8: I am so looking forward to layer groups. However, while I like allot of the other new features being implemented, I must say I was slightly disappointed to see that Layer Effects hadn't made it onto the docket this time around. Oh well, guess we can't have everything in life for free eh? One of these days I'm going to have to contribute some $ to the project to support the hard working designers of this marvelous freeware.

    Cheers,

Keep the darker trees, helps them stand out more from the grass whereas the first ones sort of blend in.

Thanks guys... I had hoped I was on the right track.... though I may go back and "un-fractalize" the new forests borders a bit... they might be just a bit too "jaggy".
Ya know, I don't have a problem noting faults in my work, and at least in this work, there are still quite a number i plan to go back and correct. With that in mind, I really quite proud of the mountains and the Volcano I have done so far.. but the more I look at it, the more I am just totally in love with the hills and specifically, the little "lines" under/around the hills that symbolize rolling terrain.... I did it on a whim and it kind of disappeared on the old map due to the dark green color, but I am super jazzed about those little lines now!!! It's odd how one little element can really fire me up....

I would agree, the hills look great.

Ok... so... I went back and redid the forests yet again..I really think I like this version quite a bit better... As well... I changed the "grassland" on that same top left island, and really think I prefer this version quite a bit more than the other.... hmmmm... I feel like I am doing the same things over again.... oh wait.. I am...

Anyway... I hope this is even better and I plan to swap out the rest with this style forest/grasslands....
