Default Greetings from the Wilds of Canada

    Hi.

I have been a lurker for a while now so I though it was time to introduce myself. I have been using Photoshop to build and re-draw maps for board war-games. After fooling around with Photoshop for the past 5 years or so, I had gained enough working knowledge to re-draw some of those maps that I didnt like.

Well, after seeing my work, a couple of (very tiny) game companies asked me to make up maps for them in a professional capacity.

The term "professional" basically means I make up the map and they send me the game for free. These companies are run out of peoples basements (or in one case the Attic). Nobody will ever get rich making war-games; the market is too small.

Here are a few of the maps I've done. I'm looking forward to learning how to do a lot more from you guys!

Tell that to the makers of Risk, ahaha. I'm from Canada too, I'm in B.C.

I'm guessing most people in the gaming industri (the small companies), although secretly dreaming of getting rich, are just pleased working with something the love - and if they can make a living of it - good for them
Those maps remind me of many years ago when I read/skimmed the magazine GENERAL - they always had a wargame in every issue
Great maps, I'd like to know how you play them
    - and have some rep for your first upload

You are lucky! I have tried to work with a few independant game publishers, but to no avail. (My two passions of the season are eurogaming and fantasy cartography, btw.)

    And hello from another Canadian!

Thanks everyone. Yes I was lucky. the fellows at Victory Point Games liked the first map I sent them. I had made up a new map for a game called Crisis 2020 and I sent it along to them with the vague idea that they might want to put it up on there site as a optional download or something. But to my surprise they decided to use my map for the game and asked me to make more!

Tilt: I have a box of those old General mags in my basement. They were a magazine for and about games published by Avalon Hill. The magazines with a game in them you were thinking of was probably the one called "Strategy & Tactics magazine". Its still around and in fact i just ordered one online lastweek.

Ah yes, now it returns ... "Strategy and Tactics" ... but General was also a good magazine ... and Dragon (for my rpg needs)
