Default Cartography student, but new to fantasy mapping! :D

    Hello fellow map lovers!

I am new to forums and fantasy mapping! I have always loved searching for fantasy maps and seeing fan made ones but for some reason I have never made my own. But hopefully me joining this forum will help me start making my own fantasy maps

So you're studying Cartography specifically, rather than GIS/Geomatics or Geography?

Yup, I'm studying at RMIT University in Melbourne, Aust. It's a Bachelor of Science: Multimedia Cartography and Geovisulization. I'm one of, maybe, 4 people left in the Carto course and I am in the last semester. The carto course is no longer unfortunately and had been merged with the Geomatics course to make a Geospatial Science course 2 years ago.

My background is in CS and GIS, but (as you can probably guess from my being here) I have an interest in visualization/symbolization. I've been working on figuring out how non-photorealistic rendering techniques from computer graphics could be applied to making clearer and more aesthetically pleasing maps. You might find it interesting. http://www.cartographersguild.com/sh...ling-using-JTS
