Default May 2014 Entry - The Dark Journey

    Oxford Dictionary of Celtic Mythology:
    beithir
    Top
Home > Library > Religion & Spirituality > Celtic Mythology

[Scottish Gaelic, bear, serpent, wild beast; dragon (?)]

A word in early Scottish Gaelic narratives for an undetermined savage creature. It may be a translation of the Norse word for ‘bear’, but it may also mean ‘thunderbolt’. The beithir may have a long tail, but it never appears to be the fiery winged dragon of Germanic tradition. In more recent oral tradition the beithir is a class of fuath who haunts caves and corries (narrow circular valleys with high walls). It may also imply ‘lightning’ or ‘serpent’. A mountain south of the entrance to Glencoe is named Ben Vair or Ben Vehir, thought locally to commemorate a beithir who took shelter in Corrie Lia.
So this is the mysterious Monster I have chosen. I think I can wrap my mind around it!! Cue the maniacal laugh

    THE STORY !

Excerpt from the journal of Colin McLean PHD Professor of anthropology University of St Andrews April 1,2014

Received a strange message from a Mr. Niall Stewart. .It seems Mr. Stewart is a antique assessor from Aberdeen .Recently he was called upon to assess the estate of the late Breandan Burrell . Most of the chattels were your run of the mill Furniture and whatnots. But up in the attic , tucked behind an old bureau he found two items that totally baffled him. First was a handmade Journal dated from the late 1800s ! The second was a large shield made from bone. He stated it sort of resembled a kite shield in size and shape but the markings ;(perhaps a map) were very primitive so perhaps it was from some aboriginal culture from Africa or Australia .
The snap he sent via phone was very poor but the artifact definitely isn’t a kite shield nor at first glance from any culture that I am familiar with. I made arrangements to view both the book and the “Shield”in person next weekend.

Looks to be an interesting entry. BTW, changed the title from "April" to "May" (I made the same mistake in the challenge post, but I've since changed that too).

    Cheers,

I'm loving the story already. Good choice of materials also, I'm very much looking forward to watching this one progress.

Could it possibly a historians map decrypting the monsters map? Uhh, that might sound a little vague, but bare with me.

If that was a question ? You are getting ahead of the story and the map. ( MY INTENT) It has been said that humans can not really emulate a map from a Monsters point of view ! I intend on trying and it is up to the "Guild members" to solve the mystery using clues in the story and the alien design of the artifact (Map) itself ! If I succeed in conveying the mind set /identity of the monster then someone should be able to figure out what it was (IS) and how its mind works ! If so Diamond owes me a batch of his world famous chocolate chip cookies !!

Well I have been having SOME problems with the UNUSUAL canvas for this map. Here is the basic version I'll work it over towards the end if I have time. Let's see how this looks for size and color !

My bad, I posted that late at night, and I thought this was the main topic.
    My apologies.
And so far, your background, and symbols look very good.
