    I had received a sketch from the client, which was generated by some program. I turned it into a satellite style map, but kept the original shapes of the land as well as the ice.

    It looks like the sort of map created by fractal mapping software. At a guess I'd say Fractal World Mapper which comes with the AstroSynthesis star mapping software from NBOS. The AstroSynthesis software is a great 3D star mapping software. The included Fractal World Mapper creates maps similar to the one posted in this thread, and I've often found it a good starting place.

    Fractal Mapper does indeed leave those big white marks across the poles when you're in gaia view. I had to avoid using gaia view because of that. My world is tropical.
