Post Ysi Earth II This Time It's Personal

Tired movie subtitle jokes aside, I think I can safely say I am done with my second rendition of the Ysi Earth world map.

The projection of the map is done by two Lambert Azimuthal Equal Area hemispheres, arranged south-pole to south-pole (instead of the more usual east-side to west-side rispek yo).

The map is populated by lots of pictures.

I don't think anything on this map has come from anywhere but my own hands. This doesn't even have fontage, because I used a neography (constructed script "conscript") of my own. At the most I traced animal photos to do the animals. The rhino-like creature was based on Dürer's Rhino, the monoceros on a Wikipedia Commons picture of antilopes, the jumping birdwhale on a picture of a jumping orca and the gripps on dinosaur paintings. The mountains are hand-drawn, but the cities and trees I made brushes for.

I am quite happy with the human figures because I didn't use any model for them. The hands on the Sealer (upper left corner) turned out surprisingly well in retrospect.

Some of the images on the map depict general knowledge about the world, but much is specific to the creator of the map. Within the story of Ysi, this map is unique -- there is no other world map on that Earth. Its creation is a consequence of my novel, King of Nowhere, and later stories (and the rewrite of King of Nowhere) will go more into de- agh god

i just remembered a great picture i should have added

    from KoNW

    i mean

it's a pretty big thing to forget

    Eh.

    I'll live.

When I look at that map, it feels like I am looking at a relic from another time and another earth. Well done.

Dude, this is totally insane. But in a very cool way, of course
The style is really unique. And amount of detail is just scary...

Is there a conlang to match the conscript, by any chance?

Nah, I always get bored with conlangs, not enough instant gratification. The conscript was made for a certain phonology, though (and thus it sets up constraints on what can written in it), so you could see this map as having all names written in Über-Foreignese, a mixture of how English transcripted foreign words during the imperialist era and Japanese Engrish kana-spelling

Amazing work. I second Turgenev's remarks - it's like some ancient vellum scroll that was written centuries ago. It's been very interesting to watch how you have developed this.
If there's one thing on it I'm not too fond of it's some of the extra drawings you placed on like the shepherd which looks too cartoony to me, and the smith and the tree which, although I like, made that area seemed cluttered and I preferred the previous version.

    But still, it's amazing work.

I know people don't do these things for the rep but I look at your current 45 score and I have to wonder why it is so low. Compared to some others who have produced much less original, detailed, artistic and groundbreaking work you are not getting the rep you deserve.

For what it's worth, you can have my +1 rep point.

I repped this in the WIP thread several versions ago, and I've been looking for other folks to rep so I can hit this again, but I still need to spread it more around first.

Anyway, I think this is really great looking.

Pimping my worldmap here. Still WIP... long way to go, but I'm pretty proud of what I've done so far...

I've already praised this work in its WIP thread, and repped there too... So I will not repeat myself, no way.

Oh my, this is great!!! Awesome! Ingenious! I'm speechless...

I would suggest talking with GamerPrinter about having this printed.

This would look incredible framed and hung on a wall in a library/study/office/etc.

Absolutely beautiful! I think this map is destined for a greater place! I've been kind of waiting for you to post it here for ages!

    Have some rep!
