Still fairly new to mapping proper. Mostly I've been learning my photoshop, D|S, and other skills by making art for maps over at dundjinni.com. Most of my stuff is for fantasy maps, but I'm interested in a lot of genres (especially steampunk-victorian right now). My near-term goal is to use CC3 City Designer (or something else if I must) and John Snow's original maps (you can find a good source here: http://www.ph.ucla.edu/epi/snow/1859map/) to recreate 1859 London in it's entirety. Don't really know if I'll ever get it done, but I'm stupid for impossible tasks.

Hi Pedrov and welcome to the guild! That's a pretty ambitious project. Maybe best done in small chunks. Start with the square mile first, then the west end etc. Good luck and looking forward to seeing your WIPs. You might want to check out Cthulhu by gaslight resources online, the printed material has some nice maps of London in a victorian style (I would post but copyright forbids).

Hey, Pedrov--welcome to the metaphorical "porn for mappers" site (that's a little joke--very little)

Wow--that London map would be amazing. Ambitious wiht a capital "A"! Good luck on that, plus I look forward to seeing your other maps. Welcome!

Thanks for the welcome all! I appreciate the redirect to Cthulhu by gaslight. I'd love to hear any other recommendations or other resources.

As for London, I'm not completely crazy. I'm going to start with a few key areas for a game I plan on running (some year), leaving the intervening areas undetermined (i.e., several small, accurate maps that are points of interest on a larger, less descript map). As time and need dictates, I'll start filling in new areas, maybe even designing connector areas between the points of interest.

Also, if anyone needs specific objects designed for a map, or if they need historical information on something, I love to help so let me know. I do quite a few designs by request over at dundjinni and I used to contribute to a thread on historical questions and research over at civfanatics.com.

That's a very generous offer, pedrov!! Thanks!

Oh, and make sure to post some stuff for your steampunk game--that's on my short list of genres with which I'm fascinated and would love to play some day!
