Thread: A Modern Office Floorplan

I wish I had maps like this when I was running my Police campaign, modern plans are not readily available (or weren't in pre-internet society when I was running it!). Redundant agrument, this wouldn't heve been either, drat!
Some points from experience (UK environment)
    a) I don't know if it's a legal thing but all the toilets at my work place have 2 doors as a sort of "airlock" at the entrance. The only place I remember seeing "walkin" loos is at public facilities - motorway service stations, railway stations and so forth
    b) the "senior management" mentality seems to be one of "fortification" - in other words, when they can they like to have their secretary/PA's office between them and the unwashed hoi-pelloi. You have to get past him/her to get to the boss.
    c) similarly, if a manager is senior enough he'll take over one of the meeting rooms as his office with his desk at the end of the table - the argument goes "I always have meetings so I may as well have my office as a meeting room", "if others need the meeting room - it can still be used as one when I'm not here" (i.e "never" as there is no booking system to accomodate the vagaries of his movements), "my old office can be a, smaller, meeting room". That said, (b) comes into play - i.e. a measure of your managerhoodness is how big is your PA's office... and so move the PA up one notch too and make the even smaller PA's old office a meeting room.... (for two. probably). Manager's always try to get the biggest office possible.

Finally - these plans of yours, though I love 'em, are like architects plans in so far as they represent the "design" - like blueprints. This is great for RP if you're all robbers planning a heist or something but a bit less handy for a combat style battlemap. I would serously advocate converting to vector and "randomising" the furniture. More "mess" !!!
I shall waive my puny rep stick at thee! Don't listen to me, I talk too much!

Crayons - Thanks for the comments - I agree, my plans are very much like blueprints from which I often draw inspiration - what can I say, I like floorplan porn! I look at my early hand-drawn maps and they are much more "random" and/or "mess". I think by moving to the software designed mapping, I have lost some (or rather all) of that randomess - and in my opinion - some of the character or flavor that really bring a good floor plan or map to life. I also agree with at least one bathroom door, if not two - though if "airlocks" are needed, I would suggest dietary changes.

And Tilt and Ravells have already suggested doing vector based maps - I am trying to get the hang of Draw Plus to accomplish that.

Rob A - Consider the copy machines/printers "stolen" with your blessing!
