    Default "Closed-basin" lakes...

Yahoo! news story about a lake that has no outflow and keeps growing due to high precipitation. Apparently it's the only other one in the US besides the Salt Lake. Who knew...well, I suppose somebody did, but not me.

There are quite a few lakes like that all over the world ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Endorheic_basin has a general discussion and a farily large list of examples). It's a common occurence in geologically-active arid regions.

The Devil's Lake situation is interesting. I find I'm as fascinated about the potential of the slider-based before/after comparison map. I can think of LOTS of ways to use that...

I just think it's terrific that the "Devil's Lake" is consuming its surroundings. That's some quality roleplaying fodder, complete with real world newspaper references!
